Dai's walk around Wales blog - January 2022

My knee is still giving me jip so its on the bike for the month of January 2022 to maintain my sanity or insanity, depending on how well you know me.

8 January 2022 - 3G ride Neath Canal & Missing Link

We lunched at the Giant's Grave stone and we discovered the Grucks (Giant's Grave ducks), a really interesting group of characters. Riding over the missing link, we stopped off to negotiate quite a few large puddles, this was one of the smaller ones that Gethin rode through at pace. Link to YouTube video of the moment.

From there we headed up to the Gnoll slopes.

13 January 2022  - Filming - Winter Kit Review 2 - day 1 & Martin Rees Interview ( https://youtu.be/iOpCnEM6KnQ )

I bumped into the legend that is Martin Rees on my way to do a winter kit review on Baglan Beach and as we'd already agreed for me to interview him about his 59 world records and other things and we were going in the same direction on the bike, I interviewed him there and then. What a great bloke, nice man, a true legend and he could run a bit too............... The picture link below will take you to the YouTube video of this interview.

FB DISCUSSIONS

(Peter used to live half way down the hill on my route to the school bus, his elder brother Michael was a year younger than me in school and is still a year younger than me now strangely enough. Peter runs with Port Talbot Harriers and was impressed with my PB of 29.36 for 10k on a mainly downhill course in the Rhondda ......................

Peter Churm - Sub 30 min 10k

Dai Richards - Only because I lived in Tyn y Twr and the only Llynfi bus picked us up at Sunnycroft, every school morning I was late and I learned to run down hill fast. There was about a 1000ft drop on the race where I broke 30 mins, the guy in 2nd regualarly ran 31 minutes for 10k so I reckon it was worth about 30.45-31.00 on the flat. I was probably capable of that on a good day.

Peter Churm - Impressive running mate

Dai Richards - cheers Peter - the corner on Wells Rd just before Fairwood Drive was always the toughest test at speed but more often that not I made the bus at Sunnycroft.

Peter Churm - Do you mind if I share this with the Port Talbot Harriers Dai, lot of people would find it interesting.

Dai Richards - Peter Churm happy to Peter, please feel free to share any of my videos in future. PTH is where I started running, a great club, I love the way it has developed into one of, if not the best club in Wales.

Jacqui Webb - (about Martin) And a fab neighbour too xx

14 January 2022  - Filming - Winter Kit Review 2 - day 2

I waved goodbye to day one when I arrived at the beach and there was a bucketful of flat clam, perfect waves and sun, I also forgot my head mount for the go-pro which meant I couldn't film while swimming so I added an extra day to my swim kit review which ended up more a story telling exercise for me as opposed to a real review. I'm enjoying making these videos and talking about my history etc and persona, I suspect they don't make great entertainment for the public but I'm entertained, that's the main thing.

JERSEY PARK, BRITON FERRY, NEATH, WALES - PLAYGROUND REVIEW by GETHIN & ELLIS

We visited Zoar's Ark again to pick up duck food and fed the ducks in Giants Grave, Briton Ferry, on to the Jersey Park in Briton Ferry where Gethin made a new friend Ellis, Gethin was in the middle of a review and Ellis joind on the roundabout, they made a great team with a review of the playground at the park. It was also Gethin's first ride down a flight of steps.
