Subject: Re: {SPAM?} Re: new PSP cluster identified in south Wales town, UK. - Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Dear Dr Morris & Golbe
One of the corrupt council officials who is covering up the council malpractice to support his own business, a construction industry consultancy (Cllr Simon Knoyle) has been in touch with Dr Golbe and Public Health Wales and this is the PHW report on the PSP cases in my street folloowing his contact with that organisation . Quite simply they are not interested in contesting the fact that the council including Cllr \Knoyle are bending over backwards to hide the contamination and any deaths that may be linked to it.. Plans have also recently been passed to move 21,000 cubic metres of it around and closer to the houses without testing it fiirst.
Public Health Wales report...............
NPT did not identify any historical use of the land that could have given
rise to contamination and have not received any reliable evidence to change their
view since.
We understand that the site is designated for housing development and that
routine contaminated land risk assessments have been requested through the
planning process. Such assessments determine whether the site is suitable for
residential use and identify any remediation that may be needed. Public Health
Wales supports such assessments, and will, if requested by the local authority,
provide an independent opinion on them.
We are aware that sites like this can cause concerns and that sometimes people
ask that health investigations are carried out. We have attached our advice note
which explains why such investigations can be really difficult, especially in small
areas or over short time periods.

I have identified that the pathogenesis of the PSP can almost certainly be linked to contaminated dust. I have recenty undertaken an interview with a woman who live smack bang in the middle of the 2 cases (which bearing in mind that the cases are in the space of 5 houses so she lives next door but one to both cases) and she has told me that one summer around the time of the pathogenisis (plus or minus 2 years) she was unable to go into her garden because of the dust and she had to clean her house every day because of it. She spent the summer in her front room watching the tele instead of spending it as usual in her garden, this probably saved her life. An additional PHW document is attached.
To Dr Golbe -
I have seen some information from the correspondence with Cllr Knoyle and can upldate you on some figures reference your info on the cluster. The initial identification of symptoms of PSP and deaths both occurred within 2 years either side, I think you allowed 15 in your calculations.
The death certificates state PSP and the diuagnosis was by recognised professionals in both cases (qualifued doctors) therefore this information must be considered to be reliable.
This is what you said in your initial email to me:
"
The combination of chromium and arsenic compounds in the area, as is the case for the French cluster, is highly suggestive and justifies further study.
To both
You both use the term 'chance' when relating to the possibilty that the deaths are related to PSP from the contamination. If we look at the deaths from a historical point of view, two people have died, this is a historical fact, two people have died from PSP. These are facts, that a historical pathogenisis has occurred of PSP is a fact. There is no chance involved. You eoether know the historical pathogenisis or you don't. The only two available answers to the question
Did these two people who died from PSP die from the contamination to which they reside near?
is
yes they did (because )
or
I don't know (there is no way of telling how they died unless we have historical proof) a rider could be added to this (so it is potentially possible they did die from the contamination)
There is no such thing as chance when someone is dead, there is only the reason why they are dead, they did not die by chance. They may have been unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time but there is always a reason why they were unlucky to be in the wrong place and why they died, there is always a cause, sometimes this is not known but this is never chance, or unlucky this is always 'not known or unknown'.
This is just an update for you both, there is no need to reply or acknowledge receipt, once again, thanks for your intial help with my research etc. I've attached a list of the contaminants recently uncovered at the site above safety guidelines and the complete list. This test was within 100 metres of the PSP victims houses and this is the stuff that was probably dumped at around the time of the pathogenesis. The fight still goes on at my end. Please excuse any typos and if the tone is a bit harsh I do apologise. I hope that like me who is someone in their their 60s this is all part of a learning curve and we keep learning off each other. Once again I do appreciate your input, your concern and help. - Dai

Dear Dai:
Thanks for sending that less-than-encouraging update from Public Health Wales.
Please clarify something regarding the soil testing data you attached: Are the 7 sites from which the samples were taken all on the street where the 2 people with PSP lived? Were they 7 different properties or 7 places on the 2 properties where the affected persons lived? Or were they from disparate sites around the town?
Now I'll clarify something for you: Dr. Morris and my use of the term "chance" didn't mean that the diagnosis of PSP in these two people or their proximity to toxins was questionable. We only meant that when two instances of the same event occur closely in time or space, there's a chance of coincidence. Given the rarity of PSP, that's very unlikely here, but not impossible.
You should also be careful in your use of the word "prove," as in your statement, "I have evidence to prove this." We must be very cautious about distinguishing between association and causation. It takes more than two cases to do that. There are many toxic dumping sites where no cases of PSP have been discovered and many cases of PSP with no particular known exposure to toxins.
To illustrate this difficulty, I'll point out that the cluster in France has disappeared. The hospital in Wattrelos has seen no one with PSP whose symptoms started after 2016 and a telephone survey of the other neurologists in the area gave the same result. This news makes a toxic cause of the cluster much less likely despite the obvious proximity to toxins, Rather, it points to a possible infectious cause. Infections usually play themselves out, while toxins don't, unless natural processes wash the toxins away or humans remove them, neither of which likely happened in Wattrelos. There's precedent for a presumably viral brain disease causing a tau-based parkinsonian disorder: post-encephalitic parkinsonism. The encephalitis was called Von Economo's encephalitis. It followed closely and overlapped the great Spanish flu pandemic of 1917-1919. The specific virus has not been identified. Some people who recovered from the coma of the encephalitis developed, within weeks to months, severe stiffness and slowness that was often very disabling. (I recommend the movie "Awakenings" as a slightly fictionalized account with Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro.) Their autopsies, often many decades later, showed tau aggregation somewhat similar to that of PSP. So that's a precedent for a self-limited epidemic of a PSP-like illness likely caused by an infection, not a toxin, and it's why we can't use words like "prove" to refer to a toxic causation without much more data.
I hope this was helpful. Please continue your efforts and keep me apprised.

Dear Dr Golbe,
The attached image is adjusted from anotehr topic but is good enough so you get the general idea of the subject matter.
Areas 1 and 2 are where the test results are from that are on the attached images to my last email.
Numbers 6 and 14 are the numbers of the houses with the PSP cases
X is a d distance of approximately 100 metres away from the two houses.
The houses iin the green and shaded areas have not been built yet.
If you look at the test results you will see that most of the contamination is in the top layer apart from TP6 where the top layer result is missing and the botom layer has the worst result. This would suggest that the tip layer is off the scale and has been removed because of this. The test has clearly been tampered with and the green triangles in the spreadsheet confirm this. The tests are in the hands of private companies only until submitted to the local authority. The local authority refuse to investigate this. There is evidence that they have instructed other surveys to alter their reports to support the developer.
Thanks again for your concern. If you would like me to upload to youtube the residents testimonial about the dust I can do this - Dai
PS - would it be possible to have the email from Cllr Knoyle forwarded to me please?

(sent immediately after) I should also add that this is the same area in which the arsenic was found in 2008

Dai:
Thanks for that explanation.
No need to send the video about people describing the dust. I have no doubt that people in that area experienced dust in their homes, and that's one possible link in the logical chain to establish cause-and-effect between the toxins and the PSP. But there are other possibilities to explain the link, and it's still possible that there is no link at all -- that the two cases are just coincidence. Answering that question will require more cases to create enough statistical power to first, establish that this is indeed a cluster, and second, to support a causal hypothesis.
I can't find an email from Cllr Knoyle. Did he send it to me or was is forwarded to me by someone else?

Dear Dr Golbe,
Whether or not it is a cluster or as you say 'chance' matters not. Unless we know the pathogenesis of these deaths it is potentially possible that the contamination has killied these people through PSP and my family are living in the same area. All I wanted when I contacted you was someone to say, "the contamimation is potentially causing these deaths " so that I can contact the relevant authorities and attempt to put a stop to them moving contaminated land around and closer to peoples houses. I put emphasis on the word potentially because if we don't know the pathogenesis of the PSP then I believe we can use the word potentially because it is possible. My contact with you is not intended to generate discussion as such or to argue the finer points of a cluster or the pathogensis of these disorders. All I have ever wanted is to be able to protect my family and other families in our area from corrupt public officials and unscrupulous developers.
To refer to my research report on PSP. it is a draft report and I use the term cluster to mean
"A cluster is the occurrence of a greater than expected number of cases of a particular disease within a group of people, a geographic area, or a period of time."
which is the terminology I got from this cancer cluster paper:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1891770/
If we remove the term cluster and look at it as just plain PSP deaths, then surely you must agree that it is more than possible that in 2 out of a group of 5 houses have suffreed a death from PSP then these deaths are connected. That these houses are located the closest to a contaminated area where dust supression was suggested but ignored suggests that they are potentially connected to the contamination and the pathogenesis is potentially linked to contaminated dust. I would suggest that not enough is known about the pathogenesis of PSP for experts such as yourself to be sure about anything.
Therefore, surely you must agree that it is more likely than unlikely that the deaths relate to the contamination. Dr Morris says there are no other PSP deaths recorded in the wider area. There is also a case of death by Parkinsons close by which may be misdiagnosed PSP., That pathogenesis of PSP has occurred then there are only two options available, that they are connected or they are unconnected.
We don't know the answer to that question so they are potentially connected. Whilst there are argumnets that they are unconnected these arguments do nothing for the safety of the residents in this area and my family.
The information that Councillor Simon Knoyle gave to one of the PSP victims families that mentions you as the source is attached.
