Dai's walk around Wales blog - May 2021

1 May 2021

For the second successive Saturday I headed for the Foel at sunset, this week I took the right turn but the path that used to rideable and fast turned had the soil washed off it and was left a rocky descent. Not being as stupid as I used to be, I got off and walked part of it which meant I was 10 minutes short of the Foel summit come sunset. The sun was a fantastic dark red this evening and I do love those sunsets so before the track headed out into the open and then turned away from the sun I got off and shot the sunset through the trees and headed out last minute into the open to catch the final moments.

15 May 2021 - RHIGOS MOUNTAIN MULTI-SPORT ADVENTURE - CYCLE SWIM & RUN CRAIG Y LLYN RIDGE

My bags were packed ready for a ride to the beach followed by a swim but the weather was not the best and rain was on the way. The beach is not the nicest place to be in the rain, the main consideration being changing for the swim & back into cycle gear again in the wind and rain which is a real problem, so I came up with the idea of a multi-sport-adventure on the Craig y Llyn ridge where I could change in amongst the trees and hide my bike while I went for a run. I also wanted to check out the new zip wire facility recently opened on the ridge. This is the story of my adventure until the camera battery run out.

We've a little bit of family camera time coming up soon in the BBC drama "The Pact". Both Simon and myself are playing police crime scene investigators, we can be seen entering into a room in episode 3, I believe the first episode aired on BBC1 last night.

It took a spin to the Mumbles for an interview with Howard Middleton-Jones, the founder of Triathletes Swansea and the organiser of the first race in the Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot area, the Valley Tinman Triathlon. This week saw the 35th anniversary of this swim bike event which was held at Pontardawe swimming pool in the Swansea Valley. This video shows my multi-sport adventure which included 52 miles on the buke and a 1200 metre swim together with an in depth interview with Howard. To view the video please click on the link below.

For the third time in recent history I headed over the mountains on the bike for sunset on the Foel. This time I swam first before climbing and I got my timings right for sunset and I arrived at the top as the sun was setting. This sunset shot is a screenshot from a go-pro video.

I walked my kayak to the canal, hopped off on the other side and onto the river for a relaxing sunset paddle.

31 May 2021 - Sunrise over Burry Port from the Whitford Point

Bank Holiday Monday and the weather forecast is for the hottest day of the year so it's up at the crack of dawn minus 2 hours for sunrise from the Whitford Point, then its off to work for the day. The walk is approximately 5-6 miles and well worth the effort.
